ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Meet Maureen McKay

Author, Parent Educator, and Speaker

Maureen McKay is a mom who loves kids and wants them to reach their potential. With a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and a passion for parenting, Maureen is on a mission to reveal the secrets of preparing children for the ultimate goal– successful independence.

While working in schools with hundreds of children, Maureen recognized what great teachers already know– kids learn differently. Many ideas used by teachers to reach students could be useful at home, but were unknown to parents. After discovering her own daughter’s unique learning style, Maureen was determined to share great strategies– from a parent’s perspective.

Disappointed by the lack of tangible strategies and the overabundance of theories available to parents, Maureen began researching. She decided to bridge the gap between knowing a child has a difficulty and knowing how to overcome the problem. Maureen put her ideas into practice at school and saw how these same tips can help every child. Armed with great ideas, parents and caregivers can have fun while they:

  • Reduce stress at home
  • Improve learning
  • Help develop life skills
  • Prepare children for life

Maureen collaborated with teachers, parents, and artists to create Optimistic Outcomes: What Every Parent Wants And Every Child Needs. She boiled down the best-of-the-best ideas and presents them in the style of a tried and true cookbook. You won’t have to read the whole book, just find the recipe for success today! She is currently working on middle school and high school editions.

Maureen lives in Minnesota with her family. In addition to writing, she is active in parent education and facilitates a support group for parents of children with learning differences.
